The lighthouse, Robert Eggers
I am hopeless for monochromatic aesthetics 💜 even when the movie is crap. It gives so much depth and poetry
In this case, the film is far from being crap. I liked the claustrophobic feeling during the whole movie that is as unsettling as the story itself. The fact that it's film in 35mm mono helps a lot with this closed/intimate effect.
I felt anxious and unhinged as much as the character and it is crazy how the feeling and the slow decent to madness is shared and resomate so easily while you're watching the movie. It's immersive and feel personal. That's something I always feel in Robert Eggers's movies.
Eggers injects some unexpected levity in this folk dark sea-tale. And the acting is the cherry on top. It's masterfully played and crafted.
A psychological folk tale horror that I definitely recommend !
